I have research interests in social comparison, self-affirmation, unrealistic optimism, risk perception, health behavior, pluralistic ignorance, health communication, and motivated reasoning. In my most recent work, I have been interested in how self-affirmation reduces defensiveness in response to threatening health messages.

I currently direct the Behavioral Research Program at the National Cancer Institute, a program that conducts and supports behavioral science research relevant to health outcomes (http://cancercontrol.cancer.gov/brp/).
